Larry Hearne, a Lumberton High School 2010 graduate, went on to play at Winston-Salem State University. He participated in the 2015 Dream Bowl. The Dream Bowl is held over the Martin Luther King Jr. weekend each year. It is an All-Star game which showcases the best DII and DIII college players from across the country. Optimum Scouting, the official scouting service for the 2015 Dream Bowl, listed Hearne as #5 of the top five players NFL teams in attendance would be watching. This is what they had to say about Hearne, “Hearne doesn’t offer top-end speed or size, but his athleticism and ability to play away from his frame is what provides the most intrigue for pro teams. He tests well as an athlete, meeting those thresholds, and could fit as an outside cornerback in nickel and dime sets for pro teams.” Hearne was a chemistry major at Winston-Salem State and is one of four Lumberton High School 2010 graduates who signed together to play football at Winston-Salem State. The others were Jermaine Kesler, Maurice Lewis and Jalaquon McNeill.
