Who was Alton Brooks (Alton Brooks Stadium)?

Alton (Tunney) Brooks was a coach, mentor, role model, summer swim teacher, athletic director and so much more. Coach Brooks came to Lumberton High School in the late 1950’s. When Coach Brooks first came to Lumberton, he coached basketball, baseball and was an assistant coach for football. Pirate basketball had 291 wins under Coach Brooks.

The fifth annual Battle of the Carolinas will he held at Lumberton High’s Alton Brooks Stadium August 12th. There will be ten teams taking the field. See the schedule below. Pirate Male Athlete of the Year

This young man excelled in three sports as a Pirate. He was the county basketball defensive player of the year, all conference basketball, all county and all conference football, and selected to the Best of 910Preps team for track and field.
