Who was Alton Brooks (Alton Brooks Stadium)?

Alton (Tunney) Brooks was a coach, mentor, role model, summer swim teacher, athletic director and so much more. Coach Brooks came to Lumberton High School in the late 1950’s. When Coach Brooks first came to Lumberton, he coached basketball, baseball and was an assistant coach for football. Pirate basketball had 291 wins under Coach Brooks.

Edwards Approved as New Basketball Coach

Bryant Edwards was approved Tuesday by the Public Schools of Robeson County Board of Education to be the new head Pirate boys basketball coach. Edwards has served as the head basketball coach at South Columbus for the past five seasons. Welcome aboard Coach Edwards! Go Pirates!

Grissett to Continue Basketball Career

Xavier Grissett, 2016 Pirate graduate who was a top blocker in the state, recently signed to represent the Bluefield College Rams on the basketball court. 6’6″ forward Grissett played two years at Sandhills Community College. He earned an Associates Degree through Sandhills (graduated this year) and will work toward a four year degree at Bluefield

Pirate Male Athlete of the Year

This young man excelled in three sports as a Pirate. He was the county basketball defensive player of the year, all conference basketball, all county and all conference football, and selected to the Best of 910Preps team for track and field. Pirates Well Represented at Best of 910Preps

Nine Pirate athletes were selected as Best of 910Preps and invited to attend a banquet held last night in their honor. The selections come from 49 schools in 10 counties. Breeden Named MVP of All-Star Game
